The Authority performs Radio-Frequency Radiation (RFR) monitoring by conducting measurements for RFR emissions on radio transmitting sites.
The Authority is required to perform RFR monitoring as mandated in section 18(1)(o) of the Telecommunications Act which requires the Authority to test and ensure compliance with environmental health and safety standards with regards to electromagnetic radiation and emissions. A national standard for maximum permissible exposure limits from radio-frequency transmitting equipment was developed in the document “Proposed Maximum Permissible Exposure Limits for Radiofrequency Radiation in Trinidad and Tobago”.
The Authority performs continuous monitoring of RFR from all operational cellular sites throughout the country and informs the public of such compliance to RFR emissions by publishing the RFR measurements in local daily newspapers and on the Authority’s website. The Authority will continue its work in the measurement of RFR levels and research in this field to ensure that the public is protected from harmful emissions.
