Dr. Kim Mallalieu, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) addressed students, parents and university officials at a cheque distribution ceremony for TATT’s Bursaries for Tertiary Students initiative. The event took place on, Friday 23rd September 2022, at the Authority’s Barataria office.
Mrs. Cynthia Reddock Downes, TATT’s Chief Executive Officer also spoke at the event, where the first tranche of cheques, each valued at $10,000.00, were distributed to twelve students. These twelve students would have met specific criteria, including high GPAs, as outlined in an agreement signed by TATT and the College of Science Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago, The University of the West Indies, and the University of Trinidad and Tobago, on July 1st, 2022.
The Board of the Authority agreed to provide bursaries to two female and two male students attending these state-owned tertiary institutions, at the start of the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic years, with a view to expanding and encouraging the development of this country’s cadre of ICT professionals, as this the country embraces digital transformation.
This initiative is in alignment with Development Theme 1 of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’s Vision 2030 National Development Strategy (2016-2030) – Putting People First: Nurturing Our Greatest Asset. Goal 7 of Development Theme 1 envisions this country possessing “a modern, relevant education and training system”.
